Find What You Love

from Arise by Annie Griffith

/

about

I heard this quote first from James Rhodes, the concert pianist, but it has been credited to many people over the years. The basic concept is that you should try to find the thing that you love to do the most in your life and do it until there's nothing left of you to do it anymore.

Mozart was killed by his music, as was Beethoven. Van Gogh surrendered his life to his paints and Laurence Olivier to the theatre. Find what you love, and let it kill you.

BTW: The "Neil" referenced in the 2nd verse is Neil Gaiman. If you haven't seen his address, "Make Art", I suggest you watch it. Moving and important stuff.

lyrics

Find what you love, and let it kill you,
A wise man said to me one day… Hey hey hey hey,
Find what you love, and let it kill you,
I intend to live my life, dying this way…

Don’t be content to let each day slip away,
Numbed into silence by fear of what the papers say,
Each and every scary day…

Find what you love and let it kill you,
“Make good art” another said.
Neil’s good advice is worth the taking,
Throw away the worries, let the beauty grow inside your head.

Don’t let your heart be full of bad tv and useless stuff,
Doped into thinking that your passion isn’t good enough,
That everything not bought is duff

Find what you love and let it kill you,
That’s the way to live your life,
Do what you love with every breath left to you,
Our time is very beautiful and sometimes all too brief…

Make a thing today, take some time to sing a song,
Draw a picture, start to learn piano playalongs,
Who gives a fuck if the notes are wrong?

Find what you love and let it kill you,
Let your creation show the way,
Find what you love and let it kill you,
That’s my advice to you today.
